Raikiwasa named SANFL U20 captain
Aseri Raikiwasa has been named as the captain of the SANFL Under-20 team to play the North Eastern Australian Football League’s Under-20 side on Saturday.
Raikiwasa, 20, is part of Port Adelaide’s SANFL leadership group and one of its key defenders.
He said it was an honour to be named as the SANFL’s underage captain and is looking forward to the opportunity to lead the team of the league’s best Under-20s tomorrow morning.
“It’s an honour, but I wasn’t really expecting to be named captain,” Raikiwasa told portmagpies.com.au.
“I think I’ve learned a lot about how to lead a side with the Maggies though, so it’s good to have a bit of experience behind me.
“I think it will be a good experience.”
Raikiwasa also confirmed he will be starting the match up forward, instead of in the traditional defensive position he normally plays for Port Adelaide.
“Ill be playing up forward as well, that will be another good experience,” he said.
“It will be a good game against the North Eastern boys and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Raikiwasa will play alongside fellow Port Adelaide youngster Sean Lemmens in the Under-20 game at 11:15am at Richmond Oval, while League captain James Meiklejohn and midfielder Sam Gray will play in the senior SANFL team later in the day at 2:10pm.
